7 ways how to be good at story writing (Writing tips)

The most progressive method of writing a story is called flow. The flow in writing is referred to the vibe you feel and the imaginations that occur during the process of producing and writing your thoughts. The flow is similar to watching a movie but in this case, the movie is within our thoughts. We see everything that is happening. This gives us the leverage point as writers to structure our story better and to write a better story.

Now, let us talk about the methods we can implement to make sure we write our story better. We always want to make sure that we write our thoughts accordingly as we produce them during the Flow state. The first method we are going to talk about is the idea.

The Idea

When we have a simple idea it can become our masterpiece. However, ideas come momentarily so we need to make sure we write them. They may be stupid but they are very important. Don't throw your ideas away. Never do that, instead, build on them. Create your ideas into a wonderful story.

  • How can you build on your ideas?

You can build on your ideas by using a sketch template. I have talked about the sketch template in many of my posts. The sketch templates include your ideas, your questions, what do you want your story to be about, your character sketch, and so on. This is very useful especially if you are struggling to start your story. You can use the sketch template and have a better understanding of starting your story. Now let us move on to the second method. We are going to talk about the first paragraph of our story.

The First Paragraph

Don't start your story in a way that makes readers turn off. Always start your story interesting and maintain the interest. The first paragraph of your story is going to be the most important one, Why? Because it is the first impression of your story. It is what grabs the readers' interest. Take time to structure your thoughts properly so that your story can flow. Make your readers understand what is going on. Do not confuse them. Readers don't like to think too much.

Develop your storyline

As you continue to develop your storyline (Your storyline includes your characters, sceneries, plot development, conflict, goal, etc) make sure you keep the theme of your story engaging. During the process of developing your storyline, you will develop your characters, plot development, conflict, aim, etc. Take your time and make sure your story adds up.

Use of dialogue

Make use of dialogues. Make your characters talk now and then. Using dialogue helps to portray the voice and tone of the characters. Readers can understand certain characteristics and speech preferences of characters. Dialogue makes your characters more alive to readers.

Conflict and resolution

Create conflict in your story and a resolution point. Use your characters smartly to stir up conflict. The resolution point of your story is when everything comes to an end. You need to make sure that you explain everything within your story so readers can understand. Don't make it too suspenseful. You will leave your readers frustrated.

Re-write your story

When you are done with your story then go ahead and re-write it to make it better. Add and subtract from it. Develop it into a masterpiece.

Proofread

After you have finished with your story be sure to proofread it or pay someone to do that for you. The decision is up to you.
