How to become a better writer in 5 steps (Writing Tips)

In this lesson, we are going to talk about the five most important steps of becoming a better writer. These steps are important if you want to improve your writing skills. Becoming a better writer takes time and effort. However, with these five steps that you are going to learn, you can become a better writer in no time. Remember you have to make the effort. Okay, let's begin this lesson.

Learning Grammar

If we are going to improve our writing skills then we have to learn grammar even the basics so that we can write fluently. We need to make sure we cross our I's and dot our T's properly. Being intermediate in grammar makes you more capable of using your words wisely along with expressions. It helps us to structure our sentences, paragraphs, topics, names of places, names, and so on. We must learn grammar so we can be able of proofreading our work.

Utilizing different words (Expand our vocabulary)

Vocabulary is another important aspect of writing. Most times when we have a low vocabulary we tend to use the same words and our writing becomes a cliche. It is as if we keep repeating ourselves but by expanding our vocabulary we can then use our words better and implement new expressions.

  • Why is expanding our vocabulary important?

Expanding our vocabulary is important mainly because we want to become better writers. Learning new words improves our writing skills and also our use of wordplay. Vocabulary expands our knowledge and strengthens our use of words.

Spelling

I know what you are thinking and yes, spelling plays a vital part in writing. If we don't know how to spell properly then it becomes a problem. As writers, we can never be perfect when it comes to spelling but learning to spell most of the words we will use will improve our writing speed and also makes us more confident as we write.

Spelling can be frustrated but in the long run, it is worth it. I am a victim of spelling errors as well. When some individuals can't spell a word they become frustrated. They might even throw their book away are destroy something.

Writing

If we want to become a better writer then we need to write every day. It builds our confidence level and makes us utilize grammar, vocabulary, and spelling. So we have to write in order to become better.

Proofreading and Editing

At the end of the day hiring editors can be very expensive. Even though you hire an editor you have to re-read your story for errors. Of course, there will always be some errors but we want them to be few. Here is the thing about proofreading and editing. If you don't know what you are

editing and proofreading then it makes no sense to do it. Again learning grammar is important. Editing is different. When I was doing editing courses online for two years it took me a while to get my organizing skills together. When you are editing you need to be organized and know the errors that you are looking for. Normally, you have to have a list so that you can analyze your sentence structure properly and paragraphs where new thoughts are introduced. It is a lot but learning the basics of editing your work is similar to proofreading. Many people won't see their own mistakes. However, back then when I was doing editing courses online Grammarly wasn't available yet. Now, it is. So be sure to take advantage of Grammarly.
